Compare and contrast your personal and nursing philosophies.
Introduction
Statement of the problem
The word philosophy emerges from a Greek derivative meaning ‘love for wisdom.’ Since then it has evolved into ‘the study of general and fundamental problems, such as those connected with reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language’ (Teichmann, & Evans, 2009). As such, there are varying interpretations and meanings to phenomenon based on philosophical assumptions. Skepticism, rationalism and parmenides all combine to create personal, professional or societal philosophies. The problem lies in resolving conflicting paradigms as they emerge from reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language as it pertains to personal and nursing philosophies across the world.

Thesis Statement
Reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language could initiate philosophical dilemmas if not appropriately translated from personal to nursing/professional phases of being.

Compare and contrast personal with nursing philosophies
Personal philosophies create personal identities, which go beyond numerical ascriptions such as social security or identification numbers. It embraces formation of goals, based on desires inculcated either from childhood or which have evolved during interactions in adult life. Nursing philosophy according to GoNursing Schools (2009) is the idea of linking truth with principle based on scientific evidence (GoNursing Schools, 2009).
While philosophy in itself is not a science it, nonetheless, forms the basis for scientific intervention within the discipline. Often there is no scientific basis for personal philosophies, but culture, environment and society forge the way people interpret life and design goals for themselves. Nursing is a science and nursing philosophies embrace cultural paradigms as well to coincide with the societies in which disciplines have been created (Silva, 2006).
Contemporary nursing philosophical interventions of linking truth with principle embody research methods, along with practice and modified nursing protocols. It must be understood that ever since the Florence Nightingale era nursing has been festered by numerous philosophical assumptions, which today have converged into theories informing practice (Lipscomb, 2007).
Interestingly, many of these theories were created from the personal philosophies held by nurses regarding their own lives and contributions they can make to the science. Therefore, a valuable comparison between nursing and personal philosophy is where they claps hands to enhance personal development and nursing as a discipline.

Conclusion
In this research paper the writer embarked upon a brief analysis comparing personal with nursing philosophy realizing that nursing philosophy can be viewed from a premise of truth and principle. Personal truth links with nursing to enhance practice as people bring their reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language to the science.
