Stress is the result of an individual’s response to the demand of change. Any campus graduate can attest to being stressed at one point in college. College students are always under pressure, one has to worry of their credit hours, study hours, job leads, and getting a good night sleep. In addition, you are independent in college meaning you have to make all decisions by yourself. All these leads to stress as most campus students try to do everything at once. However, not all stress is bad for your health. How so? Stress boosts your immune system, helps your bodies recuperate, and provides adrenaline rush if released in healthy amounts. Focus on keeping your stress at a moderate level.
However, you should distinguish the difference between healthy stress and unhealthy stress. Figure out how to manage your stress especially if you always get stressed over negative issues. Ways to manage stress:
- Live a healthy life
Most students will seek refuge at the bar with some beer and drugs. Drinking and drugs can make you feel relieved but only for a short while. What should you do?
Get enough sleep and eat healthy meals. Get enough sleep by avoiding things like cramming for your exams the last minute. Try studying beforehand always. Most students are on a budget. However, trying to eat healthy meals can be the solution to your stress. You can have balanced diets even from your dining room. Pick things like yogurts, salads, meats, and soup. You can also collaborate with friends and buy fruits in bulk in order to save up some cash. It is important to reduce your caffeine intake for stress relief as well.
- Workout
One of the best ways to get rid of unwanted stress is by working out. According to biology, while working out the body releases endorphins. This chemical is responsible for making you feel happy. Commit yourself to swimming at least twice a week, running through the park and practicing yoga.
- Create a planner
Do yourself a favor and create an up-to-date planner. However, a planner only works if you actually use it. Before the week starts, review your planner to know what to expect during the week. This will help you be on top of assignments, presentations, quizzes, exams or workshops.
- Talk to someone
Holding on to things that bother you is not healthy. Talk to you friend about how you find your professor’s expectations ridiculous. This might not help get any of your homework done but airing out your frustrations will make you feel so much better.
- Seek professional help
If you have tried talking to your friends and it is not working try seeking professional help. There is nothing wrong with telling a professional if you feel too much pressure. Being honest with yourself will help you make peace.
- Create some personal time
It is important to say on top of your college responsibilities. However, you cannot work all the time. You need time to relax. Indulge in your favorite hobbies and create time for friends and family.
Always remember to take care of yourself. This is the best and most effective way to cope with stress
