So what classes are you taking next semester? What are you studying again? Are you dating anyone? How’s work going? Are you sure you’re getting enough sleep? Have you registered to vote?
I’ll bet most college students can relate to this; all your family wants to talk about seems to be everything you got away from after you left campus. So how do you equip yourself for these questions in three easy steps and keep your cool?
Add some humor.
Sometimes questions can get pretty hot and heavy and turn for the worst. It’s best not to follow your first instinct and get defensive, when that happens add some humor! Tell a story of something your hall mate did the other weekend that you laughed about for weeks or how you had to price shop for Top Ramen.
Answer a question with a question.
Get your relatives to tell you about their college stories. Ask your relatives about their experiences in college in hopes of gaining some knowledge about what not to do. It’s their turn to be on the hot seat, ask them what their experience was like (the ones they can remember.)
Remember this will only last a few days!
And then you will be back and even better equipped for the next round of questions during the winter holidays!
